WHAT IS IT
What is Medication-Assisted Treatment?
Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is an evidence-based model for treating drug addiction, particularly addiction to opioids such as Fentanyl, Vicodin, Percocet, or OxyContin. MAT merges the use of medications and behavioral therapies to address the complex issues of drug abuse and addiction. For example, medications like buprenorphine, and naltrexone are commonly used to help treat opioid addictions.
WHO IS FOR
Who Should Receive Medication-Assisted Treatment?
Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is suitable for individuals who meet certain criteria and who will benefit from the combination of medications with behavioral therapies. At SoCal Detox, we make the decision to use MAT on an individual basis. However, individuals who may be good candidates for MAT include those suffering from opioid drug addiction, individuals who are at high risk of overdose, and those who have had repeated relapses or great difficulty maintaining abstinence. Also, when treating pregnant women suffering from opioid addiction, MAT may be the best treatment option.
